A pedestrian has been killed following a collision on the A493 between Bryncrug and Tywyn last night.

North Wales Police has launched an appeal for witnesses following the fatal collision that occurred at around 9.45pm on Saturday, 5 October.

In a statement, North Wales Police said: "Shortly after 9.45pm, North Wales Police received a report by a member of the public of a one vehicle collision, involving a grey Mercedes Vito van and a pedestrian, on the A493 between Bryncrug and Tywyn.

"The male pedestrian was sadly confirmed deceased at scene.

"He is not a local male and his next of kin have been informed."

Sergeant Meurig Jones of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Sadly we are now investigating a fatal road traffic collision and our thoughts remain with the man’s family.

“We are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who may have seen a pedestrian walking in the carriageway between Tywyn and Bryncrug to come forward.”

The road was closed to allow officers to carry out their initial enquiries and reopened shortly after 3am on Sunday morning.

Anybody with information is asked to contact officers at the Western Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting reference number X145667.

North Wales Police are not yet in a position to release the man’s details.
