Neuadd Goffa Hall Committee

THE COMMITTEE met on 26 April when chair Kevin Goodwin welcomed the members. He was pleased to report that vice-chair Goronwy Edwards MBE was recovering after his recent fall. He also wished Cllr Lorrae Jones-Southgate a speedy recovery from her recent double surgery.

The hall will once again be the venue for the polling station from 7am to 10pm on Thursday for the registered electorate of the ward to cast their votes in the Assembly Election. Mike Daniel, treasurer, provided an updated financial balance report, which thanks to the continued high booking of the hall, enabled the committee members to decide on a non-increase in hiring charges at present and to continue their present policy of the conces-sion of reduction on fees, while possible, for those local social use-only clubs. The committee was pleased that members of Prospects, of Plas Lluest, will be using the hall for a full day each week.Cllr Jones-Southgate, who was unable to attend the meeting, reported that the detrunking of the A487 through Penparcau with the possibility of reducing the speed limit was still on-going.Requests from the committee for a safer crossing on the A487 between the hall and St Anne’s Church, where pedestrians feel they are “risking their lives” crossing road on a blind corner, are also still ongoing.A thank you was once again expressed to Brian Griffiths for the continued voluntary, unpaid hours that he gives to all Neuadd Goffa users in both caretaking and maintenance services. The chair spoke of the snooker hall, a unit off the main hall which is hired to the Neuadd Goffa Snooker Club and houses two snooker tables. The club has two teams of three players that play in the Ceredigion League every Thursday on a home and away basis.Interested parties should call their chair, Peter McGarrigle, on 07977 911879.All members were invited to the Senior Citizens’ Queen’s 90th birthday celebration party in the hall which was a resounding success for Penparcau residents.

Thanks were given to the organisers for their hard work. The secretary, Pat Bates, thanked both the chair and the treasurer for their unsung contributions to another successful year. Their input, derived from their business acumen over so many years in trading in Penparcau, has been most welcome. The next committee meeting is on 26 July.
