Madam,

I read with interest the recent item in the Cambrian News concerning the proposed expert examination of the claimed accident blackspot on the A487 junction at Dorglwyd and was not surprised to see the call from AM Elin Jones for, once again, similar action in respect of the A44 between Aberystwyth and Llangurig.

I would ask Ms Jones just what does she think might be done with this section of the A44?

With respect, I often drive this length of road and, although experienced, I don’t claim to be an exceptional driver but I feel I am a careful one who drives according to the road I’m using and the conditions and, as such, I find this road to be well-maintained, in good condition and a road that should present few problems to a steady driver.

However, abuse the road or conditions and it will bite back.

Perhaps Ms Jones thinks that further speed restrictions might help? This would be pointless without the limits being adequately policed and, if so policed, drivers who abuse not only speed limits but safe, legal driving would also be detected so again, with respect, I would suggest that Ms Jones might focus her efforts on greater police resources to deal with these and other problems or perhaps she might like to campaign for any dangerous road to be made arrow-straight and edged with ‘comfy’ foam?

Yours etc,

Barrie Lynn, Trisant, Aberystwyth.
