A BELOVED family pet is safely back home after a massive social media campaign around Porthmadog proved successful.
On Sunday night owner Andrew Tomlinson was devastated.
He had just received a phone call from a “tearful man with a Welsh accent” who had rang to say he had knocked over and killed a small white/grey chihuahua.
It was the call Andrew and his wife Samantha had been dreading ever since their pet dog Jareth escaped from their caravan at Green Acres Holiday Park, Morfa Bychan, on the previous Monday (22 October).
The man left no name, no number or indication of where he had encountered Jareth, before hanging up.
Thankfully, it turned out to be a hoax call.
On Tuesday, Jareth was reunited with his five brothers and sisters in his home town of Bolton more than a week after he went missing.
He had been hiding under a farmer’s caravan and shed, but couldn’t be lured out.
“I rushed back to Porthmadog and thankfully he was still there,” said Andrew. “I crawled under the van and he came and licked me. I got hold of him and he’s safe.
“The other dogs mobbed him when he got home and, apart from losing some weight, he seems okay. He’s having a special roast beef dinner to celebrate.
“The whole town are heroes.”
