Local residents concerned about the condition of a closed-down pub in Bontddu say it has become “a blot on the landscape” and have launched a petition calling for action.
The Halfway House (pictured) was previously a popular pub, but was closed down several years ago, and steel shutters were put on the building.
Now it is increasingly falling into disrepair, angering many residents, who say they are frustrated that nothing has been done by the authorities.
A resident told the Cambrian News that a ‘demolition in progress’ notice has been put on the building and the sight of the Halfway House has become “distressing” for much of the local community.
In 2017 a petition, which enjoyed wide community support, was launched to gain some insight into the pub’s future and to ask the Snowdonia National Park Authority to use its powers to stop the change of the pub’s use, the building’s destruction, or it being left derelict.
Now, members of the local community have launched a second petition that has gathered 72 signatures so far, and which demands to know “what is happening with the building and when”.
