A TALSARN woman has raised cash through her music for hospitals which treated her breast cancer three years ago, despite being “devastated” that her cancer returned in July last year.
Petra Evans, 50, released a debut album, My Journey, in 2015 – selling it to raise thousands for the chemotherapy unit at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth and the Prince Phillip Hospital breast care unit in Llanelli.
Petra, who worked for Ceredigion County Council for 28 years but is now retired, first went through breast cancer in 2014.
From February to December that year, she had several rounds of chemotherapy at Bronglais Hospital, followed by surgery at Prince Phillip Hospital, and radiotherapy treatment at Singleton Hospital in Swansea. After releasing her CD – a compilation of 13 popular cover songs – her cancer returned and Petra is currently undergoing treatment again.
“I come from a background family of singing – my parents were a popular country and western duo – Sylvan & Nesta from the late ’70s to 1993, so I was brought up with singing and music,” Petra told the Cambrian News. “I had always wanted to do my own CD – and going through breast cancer was the push I needed to go ahead and do it and I decided to donate half my profits to the two hospitals."
A CD can be bought from Petra via email on [email protected] or via Facebook.
