Members of Bronglais Hospital’s pharmacy team have completed a sponsored walk along the Ceredigion coastal path raising over £3,500 for Blood Bikes Wales.
The group walked from Llangrannog to Aberystwyth over two days over the weekend of 29 and 30 September.
Sean Thomas, who helped organise the event, said the group had smashed their fundraising target. While they had initially set a target of raising £1,500, they exceeded that by reaching a total over £3,500.
Sean said: “Our target was £1,500, but in the end we managed to raise over £3,500.
“The walk itself was very hard, and it took us about 15 hours over the two days. However, all of us are extremely glad that we did it, sore feet and all.
“I’d like to thank all those that took part, all of those people who met us at the finishing line and those who sponsored us.”
A spokesperson for Blood Bikes Wales, which transports vital medical supplies and equipment using volunteers, said: “We at Blood Bikes Wales would like to thank the pharmacy staff at Bronglais for giving up their whole weekend to walk from Llangrannog to Aberystwyth over the two days.
“A group from Aberystwyth Blood Bikes, along with family and friends, welcomed them back and were elated when Sean Thomas gave an indication of the fantastic amount raised so far. This exceeded everyone’s expectations.
“Our thanks also go to those people who supported the walkers on their way and to the generosity of the public. As an organisation Blood Bikes is 100 per cent volunteer and as a group of enthusiastic people we are keen to make a difference with a sometimes lifesaving service.”
