The Royal British Legion marks its centenary this year and with the annual remembrance service taking place this Sunday, Nigel Hopkins has sent the Cambrian News this photograph of the inaugural British Legion march in Aberystwyth in 1921.

The original members of the legion can be seen with medals adorned to their jackets parading from North Parade up Great Darkgate Street.

Sadly, this year, there will be no parade through the town, but a service will be held at the Holy Trinity Church on the Buarth in Aberystwyth between 9.15am and 10.15am and will be followed by a ceremony at the town’s war memorial at Castle Point.

There are no restrictions on the service at Castle Point but organisers are asking people to maintain social distance and wear masks when they can.

A Festival of Remembrance is also being held on Thursday, 11 November at 7.30pm in Theatr y Werin at Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

The event will feature Aberystwyth Silver Band & Athena - A trio of Welsh Opera singers.

Tickets are available from Aberystwyth Arts Centre website.
