A CEREDIGION photographer has travelled across the county border to Gwynedd to capture images for her latest book.

Marian Delyth, from Blaenplwyf, near Aberystwyth, has been busy creating images of Bardsey Island for enlli tu hwnt i’r swnt, published by Gwasg Carreg Gwalch.

The 61-year-old has been making the journey up to the Llyn Peninsula and across the Bardsey sound for the last 15 years, after falling in love with the island during a day trip.

“I first went to Bardsey for a day 15 years ago, to take pictures for another book,” Marian recalls.

“I’d never been before and I fell in love with the place.

“I go every year now and stay for a week. It’s a busman’s holiday really, as I never stop taking pictures.”

As a result, Marian had amassed quite a collection of photographs of the island’s people and places.

“I had all these photographs and wanted to do something with them so I decided to publish a book.”

That decision was made in 2013 and, since then, Marian has intensified her visits to Bardsey, or Enlli as it is known in Welsh.

“I decided to go more often because, previously, the photographs I had taken were my personal response to the place. I realised I needed to photograph more aspects of the island, such as farming, for example.”

“I wanted to show it as a living, working island,” said Marian.
