Over 50 fine art prints have gone on show at Aberystwyth’s Bronglais Hospital, helping patients and visitors as well as staff to relax in what can often be a stressful environment.

The work has been created by members of the Aberystwyth Printmakers group and their show, which runs until January 2020, is filled with lively and diverse images ranging from local landscapes to detailed studies of nature and wildlife.

Visitors to the hospital were excited to see the work going up when Paul Croft and Stuart Evans from the Printmakers delivered it to the local hospital.

The café area has a display of some of the prints and the corridor leading up to the dining area has a complete wall filled with images too.

Jill Pearcy from HAUL, the group which organises ‘art in health’ activities, was pleased to include the Printmakers in the yearly programme of exhibitions.

“It is always so lovely to see the range of delightful images that comes into the hospital when the Printmakers show work,” she said.

Art in hospitals is not a new idea and it offers a chance for visitors to see work for free. People who might not visit art galleries or museums get a chance to benefit from seeing and experiencing beautiful images.

It has been proven that looking at art can help lower anxiety, and depression and boost critical thinking skills. Some research has even suggested that looking at art can cause a person to experience the same physical reaction we get when we fall in love.

This might be even more reason to visit the new display.

“Putting these works in the café area helps people to relax and enjoy a break. It is good for staff and visitors to experience creative and positive things in their daily lives,” adds Jill.
