A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl from Derwenlas, near Machynlleth, who suffers up to 100 epileptic seizures a day has undergone pioneering brain surgery using a robot.

Seren Hughes’ parents Ruth and Hefin live in fear that the next seizure could lead to permanent brain damage, or worse.

Despite two major brain operations at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Seren was still suffering up to 100 seizures a day.

So, in a pioneering operation, surgeons have inserted electrodes deep into her brain using a robot, to allow doctors to see what is happening in Seren’s brain.

Doctors will then advise whether more of Seren’s brain needs to be removed - an agonising decision for her family.
