Madam,

We are writing to express our opposition to Ceredigion County Council’s proposal to charge young people over the age of 16 £390 per year to travel on the school bus.

We encourage all parents to respond to the online consultation on the Ceredigion County Council website.

It is a policy that adversely affects those living in rural parts of our county, and will penalise those from low-income families the most. Wales Green Party believes in supporting rural schools, which in many cases are a key part of their communities.

Ceredigion’s proposals are neither financially nor environmentally sound, nor are they desirable for students, who should be encouraged to stay on and study at the institution of their choice.
