PLANS have finally been submitted for the refurbishment of the exterior of a dilapidated Aberystwyth seafront building.

The front of the former Deva nursing home on Marine Terrace, which has been labelled an “eyesore”, is set to be renovated after the building’s owner, Vince Morgans, of Morgans Properties Ltd, submitted plans to the county council.

The application is for the “removal and replacement of the existing front elevation windows, re-roofing, replacement rainwater goods and external alterations”.

Mr Morgans has not submitted plans for works on the interior of the building and there are no details of intended future usage.

Mr Morgans was fined £1,000 in March after he admitted failing to carry out work to improve the appearance of the building after he was issued with an improvement order by the county council.

The building has been left boarded up since the home closed in 2006, with some claiming it is an eyesore in an area of town popular with tourists.

The plans were presented at a meeting of Aberystwyth Town Council last week, where councillors seemed keen for Mr Morgans to get on with the work.

Cllr Lucy Huws said: “Plans include the removal and replacement of external doors and windows.

“They are suggesting uPVC once again (for drainage), although this is a listed building, so I suggest we oppose that.

“It has been empty for such a long time and the impact on tourism is pretty bad.”

Cllr Talat Chaudhri said: “As long as the doors and windows are in keeping with the conservation area, then we should support it.”
