A WAR of words erupted last week between an Aberystwyth chip shop owner and construction workers widening pavements outside his shop.

It was reported in the Cambrian News earlier this month that Ben Manluctao, owner of the Central Fish Restaurant on Chalybeate Street, had accused Ceredigion County Council of showing a lack of respect over their handling of the works, which are being carried out as part of the Mill Street development.

And the situation became more heated last week after Mr Manluctao said he had argued with construction workers who were cutting concrete slabs directly outside his shop, claiming the noise and dust were driving customers away.

“There was a big argument between me and the workers,” Mr Manluctao told the Cambrian News this week. "They were cutting concrete, which is very, very loud and very dusty.

"You could hardly see the workers who were cutting the concrete because of the amount of dust they were creating. They were cutting concrete into segments and they were digging the road as well."

A council spokesperson said: “The council’s supervisors regularly visit the site, and are always available for discussion. The latest information from Lagan Construction is that the roadworks in the area are to be completed on 29 July.”
