A COUNCILLOR has called on Ceredigion council to show more meetings over the internet as “a matter of urgency” to increase transparency on key decisions.

Cllr Paul James, who represents Llanbadarn Fawr on the council, said that key meetings such as Cabinet and planning committee meetings should be broadcast on the internet.

Currently the council live streams its full council meetings only, but the authority said that streaming Cabinet meetings has been considered and will be implemented subject to funds being available.

Planning meetings being broadcast has yet to be discussed.

Cllr James said that Cabinet and the planning committee make more “important” decisions than the full council and that residents had a right to easy access to those making the decisions and to view the discussions.

“I know that other local authorities such as Powys have been recording meetings of Cabinet, planning, council and other committees for a number of years now,” he said.

“I think that it is very important to implement the streaming of all key meetings of the authority as a matter of urgency.

“It’s important for transparency so that residents can see what decisions are being made and by whom."
