AN ABERYSTWYTH chip shop boss has slammed the “chaos” caused by work to widen pavements and accused Ceredigion County Council of showing a lack of respect.
But council chiefs say the work to widen the pavements at the junction of Chalybeate Street and the Mill Street roundabout will help boost pedestrian safety when the M&S and Tesco development opens later this year.
Ben Manluctao, of the Central Fish Restaurant, said he accepted that work needed to be done but said it had caused problems at the restaurant and that there had been a lack of information and consultation from council officers.
He said: “They should have provided provisions for deliveries and access for handicapped people who come to the restaurant.
“Last Thursday (23 June), they tried to stop my potato delivery as it is impossible for it to come close to the shop.
“The repercussions on the business is really bad. People don’t like the noise and the dust.
“I am fully aware that probably work needs to be done, but surely it could have been carried out better."
Ceredigion County Council said the work was being undertaken to improve pedestrian safety as Chalybeate Street will become a key route linking the Mill Street stores with the town centre.
