PLANS to convert a wing of a listed mansion near Aberystwyth have been approved despite “serious concerns” from a Trust over the implications for the building’s gardens.
The owners of the historic Trawscoed Mansion in Trawsgoed have been granted permission to turn the Georgian Wing into a home.
Agents for the application said that with the mansion wing “failing to sell”, the plans were important to “ensure its survival”.
“To find a use for this important piece of built heritage and to ensure it’s continued survival, a change of use is imperative,” Agent Simon Angell said. “Despite a large amount of sympathetic restoration work as seen on national TV and a number of years of marketing, no purchaser has been found [for the mansion].
“The works carried out by the present owners has been recently inspected by the local authority’s planning department and Cadw to their satisfaction. It is of note that both parties support the change of use.
“A great deal of thought has been put into the proposed change of use.”
While planning officers approved the plans under delegated powers last month, the Welsh Historic Gardens Trust said it was “seriously concerned” about the plans.
