CEREDIGION County Council advised university bosses to include highway improvements as part of plans for a new £40.5m campus near Penrhyncoch.
But, as reported earlier this month, plans for the Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus do not include the widening of a vital access road servicing the campus and Penrhyncoch from the A4159 crossroads, where a narrow pinch point allows only one direction of traffic to pass at a time.
The full application was submitted following a public consultation event at Penrhyncoch Village Hall in October, where residents were overwhelmingly supportive of the plans, but claimed the developers were “building on sand” if the issue over the C1010 road was not addressed.
The planning statement said Aberystwyth University, as landowner, would work with the county council “independently of this application” to address the concerns, and would “consider” providing the land necessary to improve the road “as a wider community benefit”.
Ceredigion County Council has revealed this week that it made recommendations to the developers that plans should include improvements to “address concerns over the pinch point”.
A council spokesperson said: “The council’s planning department is currently dealing with the application for the proposed development.
“As part of the pre-application exercise, the council’s highways authority recommended certain requirements as part of any proposal including plans to address concerns over the pinch point along the C1010.
“All representations received from statutory consultees and from third parties will be taken into consideration during determination of the planning application.”
