A DEVELOPER has been ordered to stop work on a Trefechan housing development after Ceredigion County Council revealed no deal had been agreed for the purchase of the land.

Boatyard land near Felin y Môr in Trefechan has been subject to a controversial planning approval that would see flats built, despite the land still being owned by the council and only leased by IMP Developments.

Confusion over the situation has seen local residents question how work was allowed to start, after foundations were built recently.

And now a Ceredigion council spokesperson has told the Cambrian News that work was carried out without the authority’s knowledge and developers had been warned not to continue with any work until a potential sale of the land is agreed.

The spokesperson said: “The council is aware that some work to put in foundations was undertaken at the site. This was done without prior consent and the person responsible has been contacted and told to not do any further work until the sale of the land has been agreed. The land is leased to IMP.”

IMP Developments was given permission by the council’s Cabinet in 2011 to lodge a planning application, despite only leasing the land at that time.
