CYMDEITHAS yr Iaith has called on First Minister Carwyn Jones to intervene directly to prevent Ceredigion County Council selling Llandysul’s Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi school site on the open market.
And a local group, Plant y Dyffryn, has launched a campaign to acquire the school for the community following its closure in July to make way for the area’s new ‘superschool’ Ysgol Bro Teifi.
Nearly 100 residents who attended a meeting at Llandysul’s Tysul Hall on Sunday were almost unanimously in favour of acquiring the site.
Final details of the sale were due to be discussed by Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet Tuesday morning and campaigners were planning to protest outside the local authority’s headquarters at Penmorfa as part of their efforts to delay the planned auction of the school in Carmarthen on 30 September.
“Plant y Dyffryn and Antur Teifi have both sent declarations of interest to the cabinet,” said a spokesperson.
“Many of us are going to protest outside Penmorfa at 8am, Tuesday morning. Please join us if you can.
“A show of strength reflects the community’s commitment to our cause.”
