CONSULTATION on possible sites in Machynlleth for travellers will start soon.

It is understood that Powys County Council is considering five potential options, at unspecified locations.

Cllr Glenda Jackson told fellow councillors on Monday night that they should insist on being told which locations were being considered, before the consultation on a preferred option starts.

She said: “It’s about finding the most suitable place. How can we be prepared if we don’t know where the sites are? Forewarned is forearmed.”

Machynlleth mayor Tony Jones said he had met with Powys council officers and had been told that a consultation will be launched to discuss a preferred option. He said the county council was currently considering five sites which had been identified as possible locations.

While the consultation will begin before the town council’s next meeting at the end of October, Cllr Jones said officers from Powys Council had said they would be happy to attend the meeting to discuss issues around the work being done on possible sites.

But while councillors said they wanted to meet with officers to discuss the sites and how they could impact on Machynlleth, Cllr Jenkins said it was important that town councillors were given the information about where the sites were before that meeting.
