A Trefechan residents’ group looking to buy a patch of land for community use have hit out at the county council.
They have accused Ceredigion County Council of failing to provide vital information as it considered its bid to buy land formerly used as a boat park, and insisted it was “not an open and fair process”.
The group was keen to buy the land, which was put up for sale by Ceredigion council to provide a community space in the area, but have said that despite asking for a range of information, the council has failed to provide answers, including details on the current lease, how the council would assess bids, planning issues for the land and the current rent the council receives from the land.
The group has also said the council’s failure to register the current lease with the Land Registry meant they were unable to access vital information.
The group insisted they had been left at a significant disadvantage with the council refusing to provide information.
A spokesperson said: “It is clear that the selling of this land has not been an open and fair process, and that the information being withheld was only benefitting one party.
“It’s clear that as the council has been unable to provide us with the current and legal lease so we can make an informed decision on a way forward, then no other interested party except the leaseholder has seen the lease either.
“This is not an open or fair action and could hinder the council in receiving the best value for their asset."
