THE over-development of Penparcau will leave “no green spaces at all” for residents to enjoy if planning permissions continue to be granted, a councillor has warned.

Penparcau councillor Brenda Haines told members of Aberystwyth Town Council at a meeting last Monday that residents fear more planned homes would see “every inch” of green space in the village taken up.

“If there is six inches of green land in Penparcau then someone wants to build on it,” Cllr Haines told members during a discussion on two upcoming applications for homes in the village.

“There is hardly any green space left in Penparcau.

“There are so many trees that have been taken up on Fifth Avenue that it should be called Fifth Street. It is no longer an avenue.”

Cllr Haines responded after two applications were put before members, both looking to tear down garages in the area to build new homes.

One of the applications, by Tai Ceredigion to build a home for a disabled family, was objected to by councillors who said that it would “exacerbate parking problems” and its location in Rhydybont is “unsuitable” for disabled people.
