Plans to demolish a golf club’s function room to build an improved replacement have been submitted to council chiefs.
The proposals have been unveiled for Criccieth Golf Club with the new facility also set to include four guest bedrooms.
Despite the golf course itself having closed, Mr and Mrs Iolo Griffith’s plans for the site have been designed with attracting visitors to the area.
If approved, the application states that the development would employ four full-time and another four part time staff.
“We are pleased to present a scheme for the location of events in a private setting on the outskirts of Criccieth,” note the supporting documents.
“Y Foel will be an exclusive venue where guests can gather to feast and stay, in a high quality building with views of Snowdonia and Cardigan Bay.
“In order to achieve this we intend to demolish the existing building and erect a new building that will maximize the rural setting and views.
“The scheme is based on an innovative business model that will not only create local employment opportunities, but also extend that by creating partnerships with local providers.
“At Y Foel, guests will be able to tailor their event by purchasing services from our ‘friends’, which will include a wide range of individuals and professional companies including chefs, bakers, musical artists, photographers and much more.
“Our aim is to create an attraction that will offer a Welsh family welcome, Welsh produce at its best, as well as Welsh culture to guests from Wales and beyond.”
It went on to note: “Our business model will be to provide weekend celebration packages with exclusive use of the venue including the waiting rooms. We anticipate that most events will be family parties and reunions.
“We will not ask for bar hours to be extended beyond the existing license. The package will include overnight accommodation in four rooms with a private terrace.
“At Foel there will be an opportunity for clients to tailor their events to their own individual tastes, and we intend to offer a co-ordinated service through collaboration with local businesses and providers.”
It’s expected that Gwynedd Council planners will consider the plans over the coming weeks.
