A large social housing development in Penrhyncoch has been recommended for approval by planning officers despite dozens of objections from local residents.
Wales and West Housing Association wants to build 19 houses on a farmer’s field on the main Pendam road through the village between Horeb Chapel and the Mid Wales Travel garage.
The plans are due to go before Ceredigion County Council’s development control committee on Wednesday, with a recommendation for approval.
While permission had already been granted for a six-home development for the Penybanc site, WWHA launched a pre-planning consultation earlier this year for a much larger scheme, including four three-bedroom houses, four two-bedroom houses, four two-bedroom bungalows and eight one-bedroom flats.
Despite the bigger scheme being the subject of 37 letters of objection, WWHA pushed ahead with the plans.
Trefeurig Community Council objects to the development “in its current form”, saying “there are too many units proposed which would change the character of the village”.
It has called for the scheme to be reduced in size “to allow bigger gardens and more parking space”, and for the addition of a “green amenity area” and a pavement to ensure residents’ safety.
