Exciting plans to build a bandstand at Machynlleth’s Plas at a cost of £100,000 have been put forward.
Machynlleth town councillors have backed the proposal for a bandstand at the Plas which could be hired to events organisers and groups to provide an income.
The Machynlleth residents behind the plan – Phil Wheeler, Zoe Mathews and Sabrina Cantor – said with a range of popular events being held in Machynlleth, a facility such as a bandstand would be welcomed.
They have identified a possible location at the site of the fallen ancient beech tree in front of the Plas.
A proposal document says: “Designed to fit with the historic character of the main building it will be a valuable new community asset as well as revenue generating venue for Y Plas.
“Our mission will be to have this in place by May 2022 when the Eisteddfod returns to Machynlleth.
“Machfringe has been responsible for many events in Machynlleth over the last 25 years and will fund the project through national grants and fundraising at local level through events and sponsorship and will work closely with the council to ensure delivery.”
