A scheme to demolish a prominent amusement arcade in Borth and replace it with a market hall has been approved despite objections from nearby residents.

The scheme to turn the former Funland arcade on High Street into an indoor market with eight business units was given the green light by planning officers at the end of last year.

The plan will involve demolishing the current building, before the erection of a new one in its stead.

After receiving planning permission, the building and plans were put on the market with MS Properties for £160,000.

Objectors to the scheme raised complaints over parking, waste, safety and access.

Residents Ieuan Ellis and Diane Richards, who live directly behind the current building, said that while they had “no objection to the demolition and rebuilding of the business”, they are “concerned with the proposal for eight business units”.

In an objection letter to Ceredigion council planning department, they said: “We would question parking arrangements for both stall holders and customers bearing in mind the lack of main street parking in general.

“In addition there are double yellow lines on both sides of the road in front of the building.”

“We are also concerned that building regulations will be adhered to.

“In the past rubbish has been dumped including a toilet which is still there after several years.

“We organised the disposal of several black bags of waste despite repeated requests for removal.”
