PLANS to move Cardigan library to a new location were branded “foolish” and “dangerous” at a town council meeting last week.

Councillors were told that there was no further news about plans to relocate the facility in Morgan Street, and a scrutiny committee had requested more detail about all the county’s libraries before making a recommendation regarding the Cabinet decision.

Cllr Gwynfi Jenkins questioned why a rent-free offer by Cardigan businessman Nick Laing – the library’s current landlord - had not been accepted by Ceredigion County Council, adding that the walk to the council-owned Morgan Street building could be hazardous for some people.

He said: “To relocate the library to Morgan Street is foolish. You will have older people and children crossing that road.

“I do not understand what the objection of Ceredigion County Council is, when the man has offered the place rent-free for five years.

“The news on this is very vague. They are keeping something back, as if they don’t want people to know.”
