CEREDIGION County Council has said the main road in and out of Penrhyncoch needs to be improved if the go-ahead is given for £40m plans for a new Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus near IBERS.

It was reported in the Cambrian News last week that concerns were raised regarding a narrow stretch of road leading into the village from the main Lovesgrove to Bow Street road at a public consultation event into the development at Penrhyncoch Village Hall.

The road, which lies between the A4159 crossroads and the IBERS campus at Gogerddan, services Penrhyncoch from Aberystwyth, the A44 and A487, and there are already problems with congestion because the road is in places only wide enough to allow one vehicle at a time.

Despite an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the plans, which include the promise to create 45 “high-value” jobs, there were objections at the meeting because it was not made clear whether the plans, which are yet to be submitted for council approval, would include a wider road.

Now, the county council has suggested that it will require the developers to improve the road network surrounding the proposed site if plans are to be approved.

A county council spokesperson said: “Ceredigion County Council has identified a need for improvements to accommodate and cater for increased traffic flows on the local road network due to the proposed development."

Representatives of the Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus said they had no comment to make.
