STAFF members, tenants and board members from a Gwynedd housing association recently travelled to Cardiff to take part in the Homes for Wales rally.

A bus of around 30 staff members, tenants and board members from Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG) and Grwp Cynefin travelled down to the city to take part in the rally – which saw hundreds of supporters march from the Assembly to the centre of Cardiff with broadcaster and journalist Sian Lloyd comparing the event.

The purpose of the rally was to draw political attention to the housing crisis in Wales and to make sure that housing is high on the agenda during the election campaign.

Stuart Ropke, chief executive of Community Housing Cymru and spokesman for Homes for Wales, said: “The housing crisis is not just about homes, it’s about people and there simply aren’t enough affordable homes for those that need them.

“Homes for Wales has been set up to speak with one voice and to call on the next Welsh Government to commit to publishing an ambitious plan for housing as part of the new programme of government, one that sets out how they will end the housing crisis in Wales.”

CCG chief executive Ffrancon Williams added: “It was great to see a representation of north Wales housing associations coming together to support this important campaign.

"It was a very successful day with people from all over Wales coming together to try and ensure that housing is a key political matter for the Assembly elections.”
