CONCERN has been expressed over the “disgraceful” state of prominent and historic buildings in an Aberystwyth conservation zone.
Council officers visited houses on Laura Place at the rear of the Old College and in front of St Michael’s Church following concerns from residents, one of whom said the buildings were a “disgrace” and an “embarrassment to the town”.
Resident Sue Nash said that the buildings, one of which used to be the home of Aberystwyth Yesterday museum founder Margaret Evans, had been left to deteriorate for “at least five years”.
“This used to be the best street in Aberystwyth,” she said.
“What has happened to these two houses in Laura Place? They are a disgrace and an embarrassment to the town.
“Tourists see this, and it is shocking to see the decline that these houses have gone into."
A council spokesperson said: “Officers have visited and determined that there are no issues of imminent danger presented at this time."
