PLANS to transform a former Indian restaurant near Aberystwyth railway station into units for businesses and office space for Aberystwyth University have been given the go-ahead by planners.

Planning permission was granted in 2020 to subdivide the former Shilam restaurant at Station Chambers on Alexandra Road to provide business and office units, and a report said “the works have been implemented but not the use.”

“It is the opinion that the proposal will still provide and create employment opportunity at the building especially as the building is currently vacant and will create a new viable and sustainable use for the building,” a report said.

The proposed development would assist in creating a vibrant town centre, make use of a vacant building and also assist in connectivity between the main town centre and the Mill Street and Ystwyth Retail Park developments.”
