GETTING around the streets of Aberaeron is like negotiating an obstacle course, town councillors have been told.

Members are receiving complaints from pedestrians over what they regard is an excessive amount of street furniture, and they are urging County Hall to seek a solution.

“I’ve had so many complaints about a lack of room on pavements,” Cllr Neris Lloyd told colleagues. “We don’t want to harm any businesses, but there has to be some form of compromise.”

Cllr Elizabeth Evans said much could be learnt from the Disability Access Group’s pilot project in Cardigan.

“The aim is to walk around the town and note all the obstacles in their way,” she said. “These are particularly problematic for the partially-sighted as well as people using mobility scooters.

“There is a way forward on this that would please everybody. Ceredigion County Council needs to get a grip on it, but they’re not.

“The situation is crying out for the council to take control of it and speak to businesses.”

She added that signs in Bridge Street and Alban Square were actually the responsibility of the South Wales Trunk Road Agency.
