PLANNERS are to visit the site of a large-scale residential development planned in Llanbadarn which, it is feared, will cause a “traffic nightmare”.

Members of Ceredigion council’s planning committee agreed last week to defer a decision on the 48-home development on the outskirts of the village so members could view the potential impact on traffic in the area.

The plans, which received over 30 objections from local residents over the impact on already bad traffic on Primrose Hill at busy times, were recommended for approval by planners after the Trunk Road Agency and the council’s highways department did not lodge official objections.

Local councillor Gareth Davies told members that there were “doubts and local concerns” about the proposal.

“On the face of it, it looks acceptable, but when it’s looked at in detail there are real concerns, “ he said. “The area is already very busy with traffic at certain times of the day so there is real concern there.”

Cllr Ray Quant told members: “Let’s be honest, Primrose Hill is a traffic nightmare. It becomes gridlocked at busy times.

“I understand the merits of wanting to develop here, but there are real concerns.”

A site inspection of the site for members has been arranged for Friday, 18 December at 11.30am, councillors confirmed.See this week's Aberystwyth edition for the full story, in shops now or online by clicking the Digital Editions tab at the top of the page
