Aberystwyth Town Council has approved plans to launch a new scheme in a bid to recognise the contribution of town residents.

At a meeting of the council last Monday, Cllr Dylan Wilson-Lewis put forward a motion to urge the council to introduce an Aberystwyth Civic Medal to recognise the efforts of local residents towards the town.

Cllr Wilson-Lewis told members: “We give out honours such as freedom of the town to people but we currently have nothing to recognise the outstanding contributions to the community of local people.

“I want to try and get an Aberystwyth Civic Medal to recognise that.”

Councillors agreed unanimously to the plan in principle, with the idea set to be discussed by the council’s finance committee to work out the “practicality and cost.”
