Machynlleth town councillors have backed plans to pay tribute to two former town councillors and will investigate costs for providing a noticeboard with dedicated brass plaques.
Cllr Monica Atkins said she thought council should do something as a tribute to Sylvia Rowlands, who passed away in a car crash in 2017, and David Wyn Davies, who died in 2014.
The two were long-serving members of the town council and Cllr Atkins said she thought it would be appropriate to honour them for their hard work in the town.
She said: “I think we should think of some sort of memorial for these two councillors who did so much and gave so much support to the town.”
Cllr Michael Williams said the town council had agreed to provide a bench or picnic table with a plaque in memory of Cllr Davies, but that hadn’t proceeded. However, he said it was something the town council should look to provide.
He said: “I’m sure that’s what we resolved with David Wyn Davies, that there be a suitable bench or picnic table, but we haven’t progressed that.”
Mayor Richie Gaskell initially said he would support getting plaques in memory of the two councillors.
After an investigation it was suggested an oak noticeboard could be provided instead as it was considered there were already enough benches in the Plas grounds.
Town council clerk Jim Griffiths will check prices for a suitable noticeboard and plaques.
