A PLAQUE has been unveiled in memory of a popular Aberystwyth actor and university lecturer who died last year.

The plaque, in memory of David Blumfield, was unveiled at Aberystwyth Arts Centre as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of Castaway Community Theatre, a drama group David ran until his death last October.

Company members past and present joined David’s family and friends on Friday, 26 August for the second night of Then and now… and Something Else, a review show presented by Castaway, before attending a special ceremony to unveil the plaque.

Commenting on the memorial to her late husband, who died aged 53, Lindsay Blumfield said: “The plaque is so special and wonderful. It sums up Dave’s contribution to the arts centre over the years.

“I feel strongly that it gives him a sense of belonging in the arts centre and the recognition he so dearly deserved.” The plaque contains a photograph of David, taken by his friend Sandy Spence, alongside words written by another close friend, Paddy Cooper.

David’s nephew Tom McCarron and his friend Richard Hull, spoke at the unveiling and said the plaque was a fitting tribute.

Richard said: “Dave had a profound effect on the lives of everyone fortunate enough to spend time with him."
