Madam,
I write as town councillor for the Rheidol Ward of Aberystwyth, which includes Jasper House, currently under threat of closure.
Can I, through your pages, urge Abbeyfield Wales, the charity that runs the property, to reconsider its decision, or at the very least give the home, its residents and its staff a decent period of reprieve. Its hasty decision has not been wellreceived for a charity which has such a proud reputation.
Jasper House, indeed Abbeyfield, has deep roots in our community of over 50 years. It provides a model of sheltered accommodation, independent living with support, close to the town centre.
This great resource should be protected and enhanced. This model, a real and valued home for its residents, advanced by Abbeyfield, should not leave Aberystwyth. Abbeyfield, we want you to stay. I support those seeking to retain it.
Yours etc, Cllr Mair Benjamin, Aberystwyth town councillor, Rheidol Ward.
