Madam,

I am a PhD student in the Department of International Politics, Aberystwyth, and am working with some colleagues to organise an exhibition in the Arts Centre in the spring of 2017.

The exhibition working title is The Fabric of Resistance, and the core of the exhibition will be a series of ‘arpilleras’: Chilean textiles that were sewn by women during the Pinochet dictatorship, representing their struggles and everyday life.

These ideas of textile responses to protest and conflict are international, and we want to include the tradition of Welsh banners used in protests and marches. We are speaking to the Ceredigion Museum about several they have in their collection, but had an idea that it might be good to place a call for information in the Cambrian News.

We want to see if any local people have any banners at home, stashed away in their attics, that were used in protests in the past and that might be interesting to include in the exhibition. It would also be great if through this we might find some people who made them in the past and might have some stories or memories of marches.

Yours etc
