PLUCKY adventurers from Tywyn are about to depart for the challenge of a lifetime when they cross 2,700 kilometres of gruelling north Indian terrain using only their wit, guile and a two-stroke rickshaw.
Engaged couple Dave Davies and Cat Sheldrake are currently in the Asian sub-continent with their London friend David Gammon, preparing to embark on the 1,678-mile road trip across some of the world’s most unpredictable roads in a famously unreliable form of transport.
A rickshaw is a tiny, three-wheeled vehicle which often produces less than 7 horsepower — less than most ride-on lawnmowers.
The intrepid trio are taking part in a Rickshaw Run — described by the organisers as ‘easily the least sensible thing to do with two weeks’ — to raise money for charity.
Half of the teams donations will go towards Cool Earth, a charity which works alongside indigenous communities to protect endangered rainforest, whilst the other half will go to the Dalit Freedom Network, an organisation established to battle human trafficking in India.
All of the money donated will go towards their chosen charities with all flights, trips and expenses paid for by the explorers themselves.
