ABERYSTWYTH Round Table members have donated a trike to a “determined” secondary school teacher who was left disabled following an accident.
Kath Keirle was a teacher at Penglais School before she was injured in an accident and left unable to walk.
In an attempt to get her independence back and in the hope of eventually getting back to teaching, Kath saved some money to buy herself a trike and wrote a letter to the Aberystwyth Round Table charity appealing for help because it would have cost her an eye-watering £1,500.
Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, David Lowe, secretary of Aberystwyth Round Table, said: “Kath wrote to us saying ‘I would really like to buy this trike, I can put in some of my own money, can you help?’ We read it and we thought this is the type of thing we should be helping with.
“In the end she didn’t have to put any money in herself, which is fortunate really because she used the money she set aside to build a shelter for the trike — which is bigger than she thought — outside.”
Mr Lowe paid tribute to Kath, who he said was “determined” to walk again following the accident, despite doctors not being as optimistic.
“Kath is a heartwarming person who is not giving up by any means and is determined to do as much for herself as she possibly can,” said Mr Lowe.
