Madam,
Dr Timothy Grout (Cambrian News, 19 May) urges your readers to vote ‘In’ on the spurious grounds that the prime minister achieved a “better than expected deal”.
Dr Grout doesn’t spell out exactly what it is that the PM is supposed to have achieved and I guess most of your readers would be hard pressed to enlighten him.
What is certain is that whatever crumbs the PM gathered from the EU table, like permission to remove VAT from tampons for example, fell a very long way short of the fundamental reforms he originally sought.
Furthermore, nothing of the little that he did achieve can be relied upon because unless and until they are incorporated into the EU treaties they can always be struck down by the European Court of Justice.
Yours etc
Christopher Gill
