A TYWYN councillor has accused the town clerk of criminal damage and theft and reported her to the police in a long-running dispute over flags on the promenade.
Town clerk Francesca Pridding has been reported to the police by local and county councillor Mike Stevens after a flag ‘disappeared’ on several occasions.
But the clerk, in a counter move, has also threatened to report Cllr Stevens.
North Wales Police have confirmed: “We are aware of the issues around the flags in Tywyn.”
The argument surrounds a blue and yellow flag, featuring a raven and a dolphin, designed by Cllr Stevens’ daughter Jenny for Tywyn’s Chamber of Tourism and Commerce (CTC).
The flag was erected on a pole on the seafront six years ago but attracted controversy as opponents claimed it was not representative of the town.
The CTC flag suddenly disappeared in June and was replaced with a Meirionnydd flag.
In turn, that flag was replaced by the CTC flag, with the cycle repeating itself on numerous occasions.
An e-mail chain between Tywyn town councillors and the clerk, seen by the Cambrian News, shows that both Cllr Mike Stevens and Mrs Pridding blame each other for the ‘stolen’ flags.
