DYFED-POWYS Police have confirmed that a body retrieved from the sea between Aberystwyth and Borth on Thursday, 1 September, was that of 23-year-old Luke Morton from the West Midlands, who went missing from Mwnt over three weeks earlier.

Mr Morton is thought to have been cut off by the tide while walking with another man, before being swept off rocks and into the sea on Sunday, 7 August.

Both Cardigan lifeboats, which had been taking part in the station’s open day, were immediately diverted to the choppy seas off Mwnt and were said to have arrived on the scene within minutes.

However, despite their efforts, and those of New Quay and Fishguard lifeguard crews as well as coastguards and a rescue helicopter, no trace of Mr Morton could be found.
