POLICE have launched an investigation after a swastika and “Wales 4 white” graffiti was daubed across the walls of the Books Council for Wales in Aberystwyth.

The graffiti was found on the walls of Castell Brychan, the headquarters of the Books Council of Wales by its Chief Executive, Helgard Krause last Tuesday.

Ms Krause, who is German, tweeted an image of the graffiti on the Books Council for Wales saying: “To whomever who daubed our building in racist and nazi graffiti: it will do nothing for your cause.

“The opposite, it has strengthened my resolve to address the inequalities that exist in our society wherever we find it.”

Local police officers are investigating the graffiti.

Officers at Aberystwyth police station said: “Graffiti like this will not be tolerated, if you know or hear anything about this please report to us on 101 quoting DPP/0011/30/03/2021/01/C.

“Any other concerns please contact your local NPT team.”

A spokesman for Dyfed Powys police added: "We received a report of criminal damage at Castell Brychan, Aberystwyth, on Tuesday, 30 March.

"Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact us."

This is the second time this year a Nazi symbol graffiti has been discovered in Aberystwyth with a swastika and ‘White Lives Matter’ being daubed near a footpath in Penglais Woods in March.

The iconic Cofiwich Dryweryn mural on the A487 near Llanrhystud has also been vandalised with swastika graffiti being painted on it in June last year.

Ceredigion MP Ben Lake gave his support to staff at the books council, saying: “What a terrible thing! We hope you and the staff are okay, and thank you for sharing a clear message: those responsible for this will not succeed in silencing us, but rather trigger us to challenge their intolerance and horrible attitudes horrors.”
