Police in Porthmadog are warning people not to drive through red lights on a railway crossing following concerns from local residents.

North Wales Police says that concerns have been raised over vehicles driving through red light crossing warnings on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways line that runs across High Street.

There are warning lights on the crossing but no barriers.

Officers from North Wales Police said: “We’ve been made aware of concerns that vehicles have been driving through the red traffic lights at the Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog railway.

“We’d like to remind road users that not only is this dangerous as there may be an oncoming train, but if you drive through a red light you will be liable for a fine and points on your licence.

“The red lights are for the safety of drivers and pedestrians. Please don’t take the risk just to get somewhere a bit faster.”
