A WELSH Minister has backed Ceredigion County Council in a row over refugees coming to the county following the Paris terror attacks.

Cllr Dai Mason called for a meeting to discuss the refugees set to arrive in Aberystwyth before Christmas in the wake of the Paris attacks which left 129 dead.

Cllr Mason said that the refugees needed to be “properly vetted” after saying that some residents had come to him with concerns.

Ceredigion council said the 11 Syrian refugees coming to the town have been “thoroughly vetted” by the UN and the Home Office and that residents had nothing to fear.

Lesley Griffiths AM, Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty, said this week that the Welsh Government’s Syrian Refugee Taskforce met on 19 November with representatives from Health, Local Government, the Third Sector, the Private Sector, the Home Office and the Police present.
