MACHYNLLETH residents have been urged to ensure that they are putting correct items in recycling boxes, as council chiefs defended the collections system.

Powys County Council had come under fire from Machynlleth town councillor Monica Atkins who claimed that collections were a “shambles” and that some items were not being collected.

However, Cllr John Powell, the Cabinet member for waste and recycling, said that different items of waste needed to be collected by different vehicles which sometimes meant split collections were required depending on which vehicles were available.

He said: “We can reassure households in Machynlleth that we collect all recycling and waste collections on the designated collection day.

“However, we would like to remind households that they should put their recycling and waste out by 7.30am on the morning of their collection day.

“In some cases recycling and waste is collected by two vehicles and they may collect during different times of the day, but a collection would be completed on the scheduled day.”

Cllr Powell said it was important that the correct items were put in the correct recycling boxes or bins, saying that had been an issue at Trem yr Allt and it could lead to waste not being collected.
