AN ABERYSTWYTH county councillor will face no action after attending just five out of 17 full council meetings held in a year.

Attendance figures released this week show that Cllr Aled Davies, who earns £13,300 a year of tax-payers’ money representing Aberystwyth Rheidol ward, has only attended 29 per cent of the full council meetings held between 2015 and 2016.

Full council meetings are where major decisions are finally voted on, including school closures, service cuts and job losses, and are seen as the most vital meetings for councillors to attend.

Cllr Davies told the Cambrian News this week his poor attendance record was because of “work commitments” which he added would soon be resolved.

“I have got issues at work which are going to be resolved in the next month or so,” Cllr Davies said. “This will reduce my work load hugely and give me more time to attend council meetings.

“Something is going to change and it will cut down on my work load considerably.”

Cllr Davies also attended just two out of 12 meetings of the corporate resources scrutiny committee, and six out of 14 meetings of the healthier communities scrutiny committee.
