THE “unsatisfactory” nature of Cardigan’s signage has again been brought up by town councillors.
They were discussing a request for financial assistance from Cadwgan Trust, which runs Cardigan Castle.
Having been told the sum of £2,000 had been ring-fenced for the Trust two years previously, some members argued that part of it should go towards providing new signs in and around the town.
Cllr Graham Evans said signs for the old heritage centre could still be seen even though it had closed its doors several years previously.
Cllr Richard Jones agreed visitors had to be attracted into town, but suggested such signs should be situated on the road from Carmarthen.
“If you come into Cardigan you will not have any trouble finding the castle,” he said.
“You’d be surprised!” replied Cllr Catrin Miles.
Cllr Mark Cole said fingerposts in the town needed an overhaul and external signs directing motorists into Cardigan were also required.
“But because we’re on a trunk road there has to be an agreement with the Welsh Assembly Government,” he added.
Town clerk Wynford Jones pointed out the sum of £2,000 had been set aside to “promote facilities and services” at the castle and councillors agreed to allocate the money.
